nxgater I like noise as much as anyone but sometimes the noise made by a single person is just totally awesome. Here's a case in point. Favorite track: Dagian & Duske.

John Cratchley Laura's work reminds me of another great musician who has examined modern manifestations of deep cultural excavation: Paul Giger (check out 'Chartres' on ECM).To me,this comparison is a huge compliment to Laura's quite brilliant work.
To me, this music is nothing less than an invocation of the deep, latent but slumbering connection to a shared cultural understanding of the values of humanity, that we all subconsciously share and that resonate deep within us,and a need to rekindle them.
Single takes, recorded in a Norfolk church, time (deep time) is conjured and invited to participate in the present. For me, Laura connects the conduit and we feel hidden things tremble and stir in harmony.

Gavin Hellyer An inspired, always haunting and very often wordlessly beautiful collection of English musics with roots firmly in ye days of olde. Favorite track: Marsh Land Lullaby.

'Quick Sparrows Over the Black Earth'
Laura Cannell - Fiddle / Overbowed Fiddle /Double Recorders
Release Date: 7th July 2014

Sleeve Notes:

I stand inside the isolated church

The cold winter daylight
pouring through clear leaded windows

The wind shifts against the stone walls
It bangs on the ancient oak door

Like the clang of a distant wherry
over the marshes

I pull the loose hairs of the bow
accross the fiddle

Beneath my feet I see the words
Entrance to the Vault
